Luke Fletcher was born in Pencoed, and attended Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr primary school and Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari before moving to Cardiff University for his undergraduate and Masters degrees. Luke studied Politics and International relations at undergraduate level and completed a Master’s Degree in Welsh Government and Politics. Whilst studying at university, Luke worked in a bar in the hospitality sector for over 4 years before becoming an Economy and Finance researcher. Luke was elected to Pencoed Town Council for the Penprysg ward in January 2019, defeating the Conservative candidate. Luke was then chosen to be the Plaid Cymru candidate for the Ogmore constituency and was selected for the South Wales West Regional list. Whilst achieving the highest number of votes for a Plaid Cymru candidate in Ogmore since 1999, Luke was elected as a Member of the Senedd for the region of South Wales West. One of Luke’s main priorities during this Senedd is to push for the devolution of the administration of welfare in order to help tackle poverty and create a more compassionate welfare system. In his spare time, he enjoys following rugby as well as keeping active. |
